This product is a handcrafted photographic print and will be carefully shipped once completed.
The price includes one handcrafted Cyanotype.
Your print will be created from a digital photograph provided by you. The image will be transformed into a digital negative before being hand-printed using the Cyanotype Print process. The physical negative is used solely for the production of the print and is not included with the finished piece.
You may choose between a 4 × 5 inch print or a 73 × 95 mm print, depending on your preferred size.
Your digital photograph can be submitted by replying to your order confirmation email with the image you'd like to print.
As Cyanotype is a handcrafted photographic process, certain images may not be suitable for the process. If the submitted image cannot be successfully produced using the Cyanotype process, we will contact you and ask you to provide another image.
Each piece is handcrafted individually, with production scheduled according to the order queue.
You will be notified once the piece is ready to ship.
Originating in 1842, Cyanotype is one of the earliest and most iconic alternative photographic printing processes in the history of photography.
Every print is made by hand, with a light-sensitive solution carefully coated onto paper before being contact printed with a negative, then washed in water, where the image gradually develops into its distinctive Prussian Blue.
In addition to its original Prussian Blue appearance, the Cyanotype can also be coffee toned. This optional toning process introduces warm brown tones while retaining elements of the original blue tones, creating a distinctive tonal variation unique to each piece.
Each print is handcrafted on 300gsm Fabriano watercolor paper, chosen for its texture, durability, and ability to preserve the character of the Cyanotype process.
The image itself is formed with iron-based compounds, giving each print its rich blue tones, delicate tonal transitions, and subtle variations that cannot be exactly replicated.
Brush marks from hand coating, the texture of the paper fibers, and the slight variations created throughout the printing process are all natural characteristics of Cyanotype, making every piece truly one of a kind.
Once completed, you may choose to preserve the print in its original form or have it professionally framed, allowing this nineteenth-century photographic process to become part of your living space.
